What does matte mean such as in foundation?

Such as Rimmel Stay matte foundation.... what does matte mean? Does it mean that it's going to feel damp/dewy when applied? Thanks!What does matte mean such as in foundation?
matte is good for oily skin, it absorbs all the oil on your skin, it's thick in texture and gives a good coverage. if you have oily skin this would give you a nice finish.





if you have dry or semi dry skin the matte is not recommended at all!!! it'll dry your skin like hell. if you are looking for a silky/dewy finish.





then i would recommend loreal cashmere perfect foundation

matte means not shimmery or glowy. Here's the definition from dictionary.com

In makeup, matte typically means not shiny or shimmery. The foundation will take away some of the shininess of your face, almost a powdered look.
It's creamer. And I love the the eyeshadow. It looks like powdery.
It means that it is light weight and airy.
